The Inter-American Symposium on Ethnography and Education (SIEE) aims to promote debate on emerging issues within the field of Educational Ethnography across the Americas, bringing together researchers from different countries who are rarely able to share specific events on the subject, given the geographical dispersion and scarce funds available in the global South. The SIEE has been held since 1989 in different cities across the continent, and this is the first edition to take place in Brazil.

The XVI SIEE will be held from September 22 to 25, 2025, at Unicamp, in person and free of charge.

The Symposium is organized around four main themes: Theme A: Research in contexts of violence, rights violations, and social inequalities. Theme B: Ethnographic experiences shaped by the participation of researchers from Indigenous, Black, traditional, and urban peripheral communities. Theme C: Emerging approaches and themes at the interface of environmental education and the climate crisis. Theme D: Educational experiences, knowledge, and socio-technical processes within and beyond schools. Regarding languages, as is traditional at the SIEE, we promote mutual understanding between Spanish and Portuguese, as long as presentations are delivered at a calm pace and supported by translated slides. For colleagues presenting in English, we will ensure the presence of bilingual or trilingual mediators (members of the Organizing or Scientific Committees) in workgroups and workshops, and also request translated slides. Keynote lectures in English will include simultaneous translation.
